The kitchen is the place homeowners spend a lot of their time working in the home. There is baking and three meals a day to prepare along with children’s snacks and food for entertaining. Many families eat in their kitchens and entertain there as well. The kitchen is the hub of many homes, so it needs to be well designed, functional and attractive.

Appliances need to work properly, not fight us. All the cabinets need to be attractive to the eye and store the multitude of dishes, food and cooking utensils we use every day and sporadically. The kitchen needs to have comfortable flooring to stand on and plenty of counter space to work on.

We ask a lot of our kitchens these days. The kitchen is one of the most expensive rooms to remodel and worth ever penny of that money. When we are ready to remodel, we need to do our research to find the best kitchen contractor available in our area at the best price.

We need to find the best appliances for our needs, in the color we want. The counter tops need to coordinate with everything else and yet be strong and easily cleanable. Every decorating style has these same requirements, but different looks and finishes.

The Italian style kitchens are a popular trend right now. Italian classic kitchens are practical, warm, inviting and luxurious. They use warm wood tones and lots of molding details. Italian kitchens feature decorative ceramic tile back splashes and rich ceramic or wood flooring. Counter tops in granite compliment the Italian look well. Wall colors tend to be rich colors like red, green, rust or gold. These kitchens are meant to be enjoyed and lived in, not just walked through.

Remodeling the kitchen is a major undertaking for most homes. The kitchen area will most likely need to be completely gutted, then new flooring and walls installed, followed by cabinets, sinks and appliances.

Counter tops of granite are heavy and need experts to install them on the new cabinets. Ceramic tile back splashes can have decorative tiles with scenery or food featured on them. The accessories like dishes and linens can be a mixture of solid colors and fun patterns in bright colors.

Italian style kitchens, when complete, can be very luxurious, costing many thousands of dollars. What if you dream of an Italian style kitchen, but have a small budget? You can get that kitchen on a smaller, simpler scale, for much less money. You can do a lot of the work yourself. You can make changes in your existing kitchen without tearing everything out.

If your cabinets are well placed and in good condition, you can buy new doors that look Italian and add wood moldings above the doors by the soffit’s. You can paint the walls rich, warm colors and cover the floors with a simple ceramic floor or laminate wood you can install yourself. You can use a laminate counter that looks like granite, you can look for appliances on sale to save money.  An Italian style kitchen is warm and inviting, whether it is the expensive or budget model.
