by mjstyle on August 19, 2011

It is inevitable that your teenager is going to want to redecorate their room at some point, especially if they have used the same furniture and accessories since they moved out of the crib. They will want something that will suit them better.

Bedroom Furniture For Teenagers

Choosing bedroom furniture for teens is especially important since they usually use their rooms for so much more than just sleeping. Many teens like to hang out with their friends in their rooms, as well as do their homework and just relax in this space. The furniture that you choose for bedrooms for teenagers needs to reflect the many uses that the room will be put to.

Most children and adults are satisfied with a bed and a dresser, and maybe a bedside table when it comes to furniture. However, bedroom furniture for teenagers typically needs to include a few more pieces. A desk and desk chair are good additions, as are some other seating options like beanbags or comfortable chairs for when they have friends over.

There also needs to be lots of options for storage, either in the form of bookcases or drawers. Discuss with your boy or girl what they think they would like in their room, and look into the different options together. You don’t necessarily have to buy all new furniture, some of what is currently being used can be kept, and you might be able to find used furniture to meet some of the furniture needs.

If you really want to go all out, there is a Sleep and Study Loft that includes storage and a desk. It even has a cork panel for tacking up important papers you don’t want to lose. You can also get separate bedroom sets that include beds, dressers, desks, and bookcases. You can mix and match the pieces that you need the most.

Modern Junior Bedroom

Besides the actual bedroom furniture for teenagers, bedrooms for teenagers require just the right accessories. This includes things like bedding, lamps, and other decorative items. It might be a good idea to choose bedding that could go to college with your teenager to be used when they move into the dorm.

This means it is best to either choose something reversible or choose less trendy and more solid color or classic patterns for the bedding, rather than character bedding that they will quickly grow out of.

By working with teens to figure out exactly what is needed and what purposes they intend to use their room for, you can come up with some great options for bedroom furniture for teenagers. Depending on your budget you can keep things more simple or a bit fancier. If you choose simple inexpensive furniture, you can still make a big style statement through the use of the accessories and paint that are used in the room.
